Medavakkam itself sits inland, further from the coast and the city centre than most first-time visitors expect, wedged between Velachery, Pallikaranai and Tambaram rather than anywhere near the beach. Getting around without a car
Most guests move between the property and the corridor by auto-rickshaw or an app-based cab. Both run reliably in this part of Chennai, and the short hop to ELCOT keeps the fare modest if you're making that trip daily rather than once. Two railway stations sit within a reasonable drive: Velachery at 8 km, Tambaram at 10.3 km, useful depending on which direction you're travelling. St Thomas Mount Metro, 11 km out, is the nearest metro station if that's part of your route.
For an evening out, Sekaran Mall is about ten minutes away, and Phoenix MarketCity and Palladium in Velachery, roughly twenty minutes further, cover a fuller shopping and dining trip if you have the time. Marina Mall, at 26 minutes, is about as far as a same-evening trip should stretch. If you'd rather walk than drive, Medavakkam Lake, recently restored as a public green space, is 3.8 km out, a quieter option for an early morning walk than anything closer to the main road. ISKCON Temple is 8.5 km away, about 21 minutes by road, if temple visits matter for your stay.
Who ends up staying here
Three kinds of trip land here in practice. The most common by far is a multi-day IT assignment or training stint somewhere along the Sholinganallur or OMR corridor, where the daily commute decides everything else on this page. The second is a family with a reason to be in south Chennai, closer to Tambaram or Velachery than to the city's tourist side, who want a quiet residential street to come back to rather than a hotel strip built for visitors. The third is simpler: a solo traveller who wants a clean room near a well-connected junction, without paying for a pool or a lounge they won't use.
